Apple managed to surpass Reseach In Motion (RIM), BlackBerry device vendors, and established himself as the fourth largest mobile phone manufacturer in the world as of September 2010.
According to data released by research institute IDC, Nokia is still the king in the first position with shipments of more than 110 million units of mobile phones. Samsung and LG Electronics followed in second and third.
While RIM declined to fifth, down one rank compared to the previous quarter. In this third quarter, Canadian producers were not able to compete with Apple’s iPhone sales.
IDC reported that Apple successfully shipped about 14.1 million units compared to RIM’s iPhone is only able to sell 12.4 million BlackBerry units. Globally, mobile phones are sold has reached 340.5 million units per month of September 2010. This figure increased 14.6 percent over the same period last year.
Of the top five largest vendors, Apple and RIM is listed as a producer with the biggest sales growth, where the iPhone up to 90.5 percent growth from year to year. Nokia as the holder of the first rank can only grow 1.8%, Samsung grew less than 20%, while Motorola fell more than 10%.
